Notes from the Underground

A visiting production, presented by Studio Garage

Notes From Underground (Yeraltından Notlar)

Performed in Turkish

Dostoevsky’s Notes from Underground has left a lasting impression on nearly every reader who has encountered it. In this solo stage adaptation, we follow the “underground man” through his observations on life, relationships, desire, and the struggle for existence.

By choosing a nameless first-person narrator, Dostoevsky invites us not only to listen, but to reflect—on the unsettling similarities between the character’s inner chaos and our own. This production follows that invitation closely. Through language and staging, we aim to show how, even within his suffocating solitude, the underground man lifts his head toward a faint light—finding, perhaps for the first time, breath, clarity, and connection with the audience.
