Honour: Confessions of a Mumbai Courtesan

Honour: Confessions of a Mumbai Courtesan

by Dipti Mehta

Oct. 26th @ 2pm

“Honour seems to stare back at us, as though to ask, “Hey, American, does this make you uncomfortable?” You bet it does, and we’re the better for it” –Time Out NYC

The award-winning coming-of-age story of a young girl growing up in a Mumbai brothel.

HONOUR depicts a child’s life pushed to the brink. Will she escape her circumstances and fate? Performer and creator Dipti Mehta says “HONOUR: Confessions of a Mumbai Courtesan is an attempt to break stereotypes. It is a piece that operates on many levels: music, dance and storytelling, to engage the viewer on a very visceral level. It connects the hearts of the characters to those of the audiences watching their story. For these 65 minutes we are one community, viewers and brothel dwellers, connected through our shared humanity. The purpose of creating HONOUR is to raise awareness and break down the social stigma that exists around sex workers.”
