About Mile Square Theatre

Who we are and what we do!

Mile Square Theatre was founded in 2003 as a non-profit professional theatre.

We enrich and engage the region through the production of professional theatre and innovative arts education.  Our dance and theatre classes are designed to instill a life-long interest in the arts.

The Theatre traditionally engages thousands of people throughout the Greater Hudson County community each year through a dynamic season of new work, gently used pieces, and a robust series of education and community engagement programs performed at Mile Square Theatre’s 116-seat house.

We build transformative education experiences that enhance teacher practice, deepen student learning, and ignite the present and futures of young people through embracing the arts.

VISION – To be an inclusive theatre that is essential to our community, the nation, and the world.

VALUES

CREATIVE EXCELLENCE

Committed to standards at the highest professional level in our world premiere productions, contemporary work, gently used classics and new play development.

 AUDIENCE

Honoring and serving our longtime audience, subscribers, artists and artisans and guests while simultaneously cultivating and welcoming new and diverse audiences to Mile Square Theatre. We reduce the barriers of entry —financial, physical and cultural—that can inhibit theatergoing by ensuring affordable tickets and accessibility in all forms.

EDUCATION AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

Broadening perspectives through education, engagement with the many communities of Hudson County , using theatre in everyday contexts, and theatre experiences for people of all ages.  And leveraging our spaces for those who need it.

Mile Square Theatre produces professional theatre year-round – for all ages – and our festival of plays about baseball, 7th Inning Stretch.

Our Dance Academy provides pre-professional dance training in ballet, contemporary, tap, theatre dance, flamenco and hip hop; classes run on an academic-year schedule.

Theatre classes provide skills and techniques around acting, listening, reacting, and performer confidence and skills.   Classes run on an academic-year schedule and include performances.

Mile Square Theatre was founded in 2003 by Chris O’Connor, who led the organization as Artistic Director.
